NCST’s work increases access to homeownership, promotes resilient neighborhoods, and advances racial equity by advocating for policy change.
Greater Chicagoland Fellowship (GCF), an NCST partner for over 10 years, is HUD-certified and has rehabbed over 400 properties during that time including this Freddie Mac NSI First Look property in Romeoville. GCF spent just under $60,000 to rehab this three bedroom, two bath home. Rehab included all new mechanicals (furnace, air conditioning, and hot water tank), new roof, updated kitchen with wood flooring throughout first floor, all new appliances including washer and dryer, updated bathrooms. There were many unforeseen issues and code violations on this home including high levels of Radon which GCF rectified by installing a Radon Mitigation System.
GCF provided almost $5,000 in closing cost assistance to the new homebuyer who purchased the property for $230,000. The new homebuyer was a single mother with four children and income of just over $56,000 working in the food service industry in the village next door. This single mother was thrilled about moving into this beautifully renovated home because of its proximity to her mother’s home that is located on the same block. Romeoville is a racially diverse community of about 40,000 people just 26 miles southwest of Chicago in Will County.
