The Port Huron Neighborhood Housing Corp., a Michigan non-profit, purchased this property through the NSI First Look program. They spent more than $60,000 to renovate this home and then offered it for sale at five-percent under the appraised value.
The new owner occupants are a family of four with an income under 80% AMI, and they were very excited to purchase their first home. They had to meet Port Huron’s strict program purchasing requirements. As well, they qualified for the Urban Pioneer Grant program to pay their closing costs by completing pre-purchase counseling, qualifying for a mortgage through a local lender, and having saved a three-percent down-payment.
Renovations to this three-bedroom, one bathroom, 1,162 square foot home included an updated heating system, new roof, and fresh paint inside and out. The garage was renovated and a new asphalt driveway was laid. The kitchen updates include new flooring, countertops, a dishwasher, and disposal; the bathroom was also updated. Hardwood floors throughout the home were sanded and refinished.
